My vanity is almost finished (a few more touches need to be done!) and I am so excited. Those of you that have been reading my blog for a while know all about my obsession with pretty vanity's and when I lived in Malta I just couldn't buy any as I didn't know how long we were going to stay.
This project has taken a few months though but I am 100% happy with how it is turning out. I like things to have a story and not just be store bough all in one day as I feel it gives it a more personal interesting touch! Almost all the items are special to me or have an interesting story behind how I got them.
Vanity table - I had told my mom I wanted an old looking vanity but in glossy white so when she told me she had an antique dark wood table with two drawers in the garage that I could have I was so happy. I remember it being in our house years and years ago (like 20!) so it is quite cool to have it for myself now. I painted it white and took of the wooden drawer knobs and replaced it with gorgeous glass ones I found at NAP in the Cape Quarter for a bargain.
Mirror - My mom found this antique frame and painted it white and got a mirror put in even before we got to Cape Town. She new exactly what I was looking for. (She found it on the side of the road can you believe!!)
Cut glass vase and cotton ball holder - Both of these are antique and belonged to my gran which makes them extra special.
Brush holder - It is actually a toothbrush holder that I bought at Mr Price because it went to nicely with my whole vanity theme
I still need to do a few things like put the mirror up on the wall, get some mini roses for my cut glass vase and get a new stool (preferably one that I can upholster a seat with some Swedish black and white material I have) but I am almost there and I love sitting and doing my makeup now :)

Love, Love, love it!
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty cool how with interior you tend to garvate to black and white but with fashion one can always expect you to be in brights.
This is such a gorgeous vanity! It makes the world of difference when doing your hair and make-up if you feel like you can relax and take pleasure from your surroundings - you did a great job! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat style! Looks so romantic!
ReplyDeleteI love it, that's exactly the style I'd like to have myself. Currently I don't have a vanity because I'm between apartments on a bit of vacation in England visiting family. I will be trying to re-create one like this when I go back to Korea though.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty, like all your stuff is :)

I get quite attached to my furniture (i know, sounds silly) so completely understand your reasons to have everything with history. That's why I hate shopping for furniture in Ikea. Lovely setting xx
