This is a question we get a lot at the salon I work at. And the answer is…it depends! If you are getting a full set of lashes, we recommend that you come in with a clean face. This will allow the technician to better adhere the lashes and ensure they are applied evenly. Here are a few additional things to consider when deciding whether or not to wear makeup to your lash appointment.
If you are getting a touch-up or a fill, you can certainly come in with your makeup already done. Just make sure to remove any eye makeup prior to your appointment. We also recommend bringing along some oil-free makeup remover wipes, just in case any residual makeup gets in the way during your touch-up or fill.
The Pros of Wearing Makeup to Your Lash Appointment
If you wear makeup regularly, you probably want your lashes to match the look you’ve already created. Wearing makeup to your appointment ensures that your lashes will be the right color and style to complement your overall look. Plus, it can be a great way to try out a new lash style before committing to it long-term.
Another benefit of wearing makeup to your lash appointment is that it can help you feel more confident and put-together during the procedure. Lash extensions can take a couple of hours to apply, so having your makeup done beforehand can make you feel less self-conscious about being bare-faced for a period of time.
The Cons of Wearing Makeup to Your Lash Appointment
On the other hand, if you don’t wear makeup regularly, you might feel more comfortable having your lashes done without any makeup on. This way, you can get a feel for how they look and decide if you like them before adding any additional products. Additionally, if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to avoid wearing makeup during your appointment as it could irritate your skin.
Another disadvantage of wearing makeup to your lash appointment is that it can interfere with the application process. If you have foundation, concealer, or powder on your eyelids, it can make it harder for the technician to properly attach the extensions. This could result in a less precise and long-lasting application.
Furthermore, wearing eye makeup like mascara or eyeliner can also cause issues during the lash extension process. These products can leave residue on your lashes which can prevent the adhesive from properly bonding with your natural lashes. This can lead to premature shedding and shorter wear time for your extensions.
Lastly, if you do choose to wear makeup to your appointment, you will need to remove it before the technician begins applying the extensions. Not only does this add extra time
At the end of the day, it’s up to you whether or not you want to wear makeup to your lash appointment. If you’re undecided, we recommend coming in with a clean face so that our stylists can help you choose the right lash style for your natural beauty. However, if you know exactly what look you’re going for, feel free to come in with your makeup already done!
